Afua Animah Brown-Pobee is the Director of Finance at the Ministry of Finance, bringing over two decades of expertise in public sector accounting, treasury management, and financial reporting. Since 2022 when she assumed this role, she has led a team responsible for custody, disbursement, and reporting of public funds, coordinating all accounting activities within the Ministry, maintaining accurate financial records, and preparing annual and consolidated financial statements for the Ministry and its Departments while ensuring strict compliance with the Public Financial Management Act, 2016 (Act 921) and other regulatory frameworks.
She has held various strategic positions in the public sector, including Head of Treasury at the Ministry of Finance from 2017 to 2022, where she played a key role in processing centralized payments through the Ghana Integrated Financial Management Information System (GIFMIS), and led the timely preparation of final accounts and tax payments.
Prior to joining the Ministry, Afua served as Head of Accounts at the Controller and Accountant General’s Department (CAGD) from 2013 to 2017, and as Head of Finance at the Nurses Training College (Ophthalmic). Her career also includes impactful roles within the Ministry of Health and in the private sector with Shell Ghana Ltd.
Afua holds an MBA in Public Finance from the University of Leicester and is a Chartered Accountant accredited by the Institute of Chartered Accountants, Ghana. Her commitment to continuous professional development is evidenced by extensive training in Public Financial Management, IPSAS, Change Management, Financial Management Development, and Leadership, both locally and internationally.
She is known for her leadership, her love for numbers, and dedication to mentoring teams.
