The Hon. Minister for Finance, Mr. Ken Ofori-Atta has stated that, now is the time for renewed commitment in all aspects of our work as Ghana finally exit the International Monetary Fund Extended Credit Facility.
Speaking at a staff durbar organized to express gratitude to God and the entire staff for their commitment toward our organized goal of exiting the IMF, success at the Eurobond issuance and the gradual recovery of the cedi against the dollar, Mr. Ken Ofori-Atta clad in his usual white, noted that for Ghana to have successfully issued the $3billion Eurobond which was oversubscribed about seven times and at very good and comparable rates could only be attributed God and hard work from the entire staff.
The visibly elated Finance Minister reserved special praise for the President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the Vice President of the Republic of Ghana, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia who heads the Economic Management Team, Dr. Ernest Addison, Governor of the Bank of Ghana and Management of the Ministry for their leadership, guidance and unalloyed support throughout this period and the outcome of which we are celebrating today.
Aside the successfully issued the $3 billion Eurobond which was oversubscribed about seven times and at very good and comparable rates, he also talked about the IMF concluded the combined 7th and 8th Review of the ECF programme which Ghana entered three years ago and would exit next month and the rebound and regained strength of the cedi against the dollar in the last couple of weeks.
“As we celebrate, let us make a renewed commitment to go the extra mile for our beloved country and to contribute our quota to realizing our Presidents vision of Ghana Beyond Aid” Mr. Ofori-Atta underscored. He finally called for oneness of purpose and direction and also charged the management and staff to avoid complacency as there was the tendency for man to rest on his oars after achieving a set goal.
Staff were treated to good music and traditional Ghanaian delicacies as the Ministry has always shown our love for made in Ghana foods and drinks. With servers clad in traditional dress serving food in the typical Ghanaian leaves was reminiscent of the good old days. END
