PRESS RELEASE FINANCE MINISTER INAUGURATES GOVERNING BOARD OF THE REVENUE AGENCIES
Hon. Dr. Kwabena Duffuor has inaugurated an eleven-member Board for the Revenue Agencies and charged them to immediately come out with strategies that will ensure that revenue agencies meet their targets for this year.
The Minister noted that the revenue agencies collectively have not met their target for the first half of the year moreover, the financial meltdown has affected foreign inflows, it has therefore become imperative that the agencies double up efforts in domestic revenue mobilization.
“Mr. Chairman, I will therefore task you and your board to ensure that all impediments to domestic revenue mobilization are removed immediately. Leakages in the administration of taxes must be sealed once and for all”, he said.
Dr. Duffuor also urged the board to step up efforts in the enforcement the code of conduct and training on integrity issues for staff so as to improve service delivery as well as reduce corruption related acts by officers.
The Chairman of the Board, Mr. Emmanuel E. Kwesie assured the Minister of their commitment to the tasked ahead and expressed their appreciation to H. E the President and the Hon. Minister for their nomination to serve on the board.
Other members of the Board are; Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Mr. Samuel Sallas Mensah, CEPS Commissioner, VAT Commissioner, CEPS Commissioner, and Mr. Simeon Patrick Kyei. The rest are, Mr. Ali-Nakyea Abdallah, Ms Jessie Jacintho, Hon. James Avedzi, MP and Mrs. Kokoi Adu.
Today marks the inauguration of the 4th Board of Directors of the RAGB since its implementation in 2001. The RAGB was establish by an Act of Parliament in 1998 to supervise and co-ordinate the activities of the revenue agencies. This was done as part of the reforms in revenue administration embarked upon in 1986.
