Mining Companies Are Partners in Development
Hon. Alhaji Collins Dauda (MP), Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, has described mining companies operating in Ghana as key partners of government in the development of the nation in view of their common interest in enhancing living standards of communities in their areas of operation.
Hon. Collins Dauda said the government’s commitment to this partnership is amply reflected by policies being evolved to support and facilitate the smooth operations of mining companies.
In order to mobilise adequate resources to enable government deliver on its vision of a “Better Ghana” however, the Lands and Natural Resources Minister revealed that Parliament is currently considering a bill to review upwards royalties paid by mining companies from the prevailing three per cent to six per cent.
The outcome of the review process notwithstanding, the Hon. Minister is optimistic that government’s collaboration with mining companies will continue to grow in the years ahead.
Hon. Collins Dauda was speaking during a courtesy call by Mr. Toby Bradbury, the new Senior Vice President of AngloGold Ashanti Operations in Ghana. Mr. Bradbury who was accompanied by Mr. John Owusu, Public Affairs Manager and Mr. Addo Kufuor, the Corporate Manager of AngloGold Ashanti, to introduce himself to the Hon. Minister, takes over from Mr. Keith Faulker.
In his response, Mr. Bradbury expressed appreciation for the warm reception accorded him since his arrival in Ghana and registered his gratitude to the Hon. Minister for the keen interest he has so far shown in the operations of AngloGold Ashanti. He intimated that he is looking forward to working closely with the Ministry to further deepen AngloGold Ashanti’s relations with government.
