Accountant-General's Department to clean pay roll of ghost names

The Controller and Accountant - General's Department (CAGD), has engaged the services of a consultancy firm- Provision Consult to delete the names of "ghost names" on the pay-roll, effective August this year.

The exercise is in response to an appeal made by the Ghana Government Pensioners' Association.

Mr Paul Asumadu, Brong-Ahafo Regional Director of CAGD, made this known in Sunyani at the 6th regional quadrennial delegates' conference of the Ghana Government Pensioners' Association.

He said the department had acquired the necessary logistics including vehicles to kick-start the exercise.

The regional director expressed worry about problems associated with the pay-roll such as the under payment of pensioners and asked the association to take the issue to a higher platform for redress it.

Presenting the Regional Working Committee Report, Mr Frank E. Arthur, out-going Regional Secretary of the association, said out of the 22 instituted administrative districts, the body operated in 20 of them.

He said there are few members of the association in the newly created districts, which does not merit the inauguration of additional branches there.

Mr Arthur cited the decision of the Regional Executive Council in April to approve the dissolution of the Sene and Kintampo South district branches with effect from January 2011, due to low membership.

"Their respective mother districts of Kintampo North and Atebubu have been tasked to cater for members of the two districts on zonal basis," he said.

The conference elected new regional officers to steer the affairs of the association for a four- year term.

The officers were; Mr Samuel Boakye Yiadom, who was elected unopposed as Regional Chairman and Mr Augustine Addai Appiah, who was also elected unopposed as Regional Secretary.

Mr Samuel Antwi defeated Mr James K. Antwi for the post of Deputy Regional Secretary.

Mr Yiadom on behalf of his colleagues thanked the delegates for the confidence reposed in them and promised to work hard for the welfare of members.
