Japan Constructs School Block
Mr. Keiichi Katakami, Japanese Ambassador to Ghana, yesterday signed a grant of GH¢105,550 for the construction of a 6-unit classroom block, which include an office and a storeroom for the Ho Dome E.P. Primary School, in the Volta Region.
The support initiated by Mama Atrato II, Queenmother of Ho-Dome will also provide 90-dual desks for the pupils and eight teachers' tables and 10 chairs.
Mr. Katakami said, the amount from the Japanese Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects Scheme, will provide a new classroom block to accommodate 100 more in addition to the existing 154 pupils.
"Ultimately, my hope is that improved educational standards in Dome as a result of this project will lead directly to the development of the town and the city of Ho as a whole," he said.
Mama Atrato said, the school has not had any major rehabilitation since it was built by the Germans in 1948 and assured the Japanese Ambassador that the project will be completed on time.
She advised parents to invest in their children's education rather than on funeral clothes and urged the government to consider the school under the school feeding programme.
Mr. Joseph Amenowode, Volta Regional Minister, urged the community to be transparent in the execution of the project to ensure its early completion.
He was hopeful that the project will promote academic excellence in the school.
The project is expected to be completed next year. Mr. Katakami was presented with a stool and beads by the Queen mothers and teachers of the school.
