September 26 – 2010 Census Date
Hon Dr. Kwabena Duffuor today announced September 26, 2010 as the date for the beginning of the 2010 Population and Housing Census.
“This date marks the start of the period of the enumeration of the population and housing, that is counting, interviewing and collection of the population and household data.
The date will further serve as the Reference Point for all the information that will be requested from individuals, households and institutions of residence, and the communities” he explained.
Dr. Duffuor announced the date at a press conference today at the Ministry of Information and National Orientation. Present were the Minister of Information, the Government Statistician, and other government officials.
The Minister stressed that anyone, regardless of nationality, place of birth, religion or creed, should be enumerated as long as they are within the borders of the country at the stroke of midnight of Sunday 26, September 2010.
He said government has committed substantial resources into the exercise and appealed to MDAs and MMDAs to do their utmost to ensure that logistics needed are made available to field officers for a successful programme.
Dr. Duffuor expressed appreciation to development partners and some individuals and private organizations who have contributed in diverse ways to support the programme.
Dr. Grace Bediako, Government Statistician emphasized the need for all especially the media to support the exercise to ensure its success.
“As we enter the final stages of the preparations, the need to get to our households with the messages, before the enumerators get to them becomes most urgent. We need the media to hit the airwaves, print, the internet, and every medium of communication opened to us”, she added.
