Chinese Ambassador calls the Honourable Minister
The new Chinese Ambassador Plenipotentiary and Extraordinary of the People’s Republic of China to Ghana, H.E Mr. Wenzhe Yu has paid a courtesy call on the Honourable Minister, Kwadwo Baah-Wiredu.
H.E Mr. said he was honoured and privileged to have the opportunity to work in Ghana at a time when the country is striving to be a middle income country by 2015 and promised to use his good offices to further strengthen the already steadfast relations between the two countries.
H. E Wenzhe further said the strong relationship between Ghana and China is evident in the partnership and mutual assistance that exist between the countries. Evidence of these includes projects like the Ministry of Defense Office block under construction among other things.
The Honourable Minister on his part was optimistic that H.E Mr. Wenzhe could play a major role in his own way to help the country towards its strife to be a middle income country by 2015.
The Minister acknowledged with gratitude the untiring efforts of his predecessor in helping Ghana seek a long – term solution to the energy crisis by sourcing funds to finance the construction of the Bui Dam. He added that it was his fervent hope that the Concessional Loan Agreement itself and the Buyer’s Credit Agreement will be signed as soon as possible.
Hon Baah-Wiredu announced that the Sod Cutting Ceremony to mark the commencement of construction activities at the Dam site is scheduled to take place at Bui on Friday 24th August, 2007.
Diplomatic relationship between the two countries commenced decades ago with China through donor funding assisting Ghana with various projects and programmes.
Some of the on-going and completed projects supported by China include; The reconstruction of the 16.9 kilometers Ofankor-Nsawam road project completed in 2006; the rehabilitation of the National Theatre; implementation of the 1st phase of the Dedicated Communication Project for the Security Agencies and the Bui Hydro-Electric Power Dam Project.
