Departing Chinese Ambassador call on Hon. Minister

The out going Chinese Ambassador to Ghana, His Excellency Zhang Keyuan paid a farewell visit to the Hon. Minister of Finance and Economic Planning, Hon. Kwadwo Baah-Wiredu at his office.

Welcoming him, Hon. Kwadwo Baah-Wiredu thanked the Ambassador for Chinese government’s assistance to Ghana particularly during H. E tenure, noting that the relationship between Ghana and China has seen unprecedented growth, with China now being Ghana’s the third largest bilateral development partner.

He also expressed his satisfaction with performance of Chinese contracts and efforts being made with Bui Dam which will go a long way to help Ghana in our energy crisis.

Hon. Minister expressed his appreciation to the Chinese government for their support in the completion of the Ofankor-Nsawam road which has reduced the number of road accidents drastically and the cancellation of some debt, and the procurement of building materials for the Peduase Lodge.

In particular, Hon. Baah-Wiredu thanked the Chinese government for their efforts in helping with the current energy problem especially coming to the aid of Ghana with a loan for the construction of the Bui Dam.

H. E. Zhang Keyuan said he enjoyed immensely his stay in the country and was sad to leave Ghana after three years and eight months of stay. He stated that although the relationship between Ghana and China dates back to the sixties, the bilateral relations has witnessed a high growth rate in recent years.

This is evidenced by His Excellency President Kufuor’s visits to China, (2002 and 2006), the Chinese President, Chairman of CPCC and other high profile government officials to visit Ghana

He noted that the increase in bilateral relation is also evidenced in the increase in the number of Chinese financed projects in the country notably the Bui dam. He said he was also proud of the personal relationship he built with not only the Ghanaian officials but also the ordinary Ghanaian populace who are always courteous and friendly.
