COURTESY CALL ON THE MINISTER AND TEAM BY THE NEW BRITISH HIGH COMMISSIONER

The new British High Commissioner, Dr. Nicholas Westcott, on Thursday, February,7, 2008, paid a courtesy call on the Honorable Minister of Finance and Economic Planning, Mr. Kwadwo Baah Wiredu . The purpose of the visit was to officially introduce himself to the Minister. He was accompanied by Mr. Mike Hammond Head of DFID in Ghana

The British High Commissioner commendered Ghana for her good governance and progress in terms of infrastructural development over the past fifteen years. He therefore pledged Britain’s continues support for the country. He said the country’s political practice which has been improved over the years is a plus to its economic growth and development as it gives investors the needed confidence to invest in the country. .

The Deputy Minister of Finance and Economic Planning, Professor George Gyan Baffuor assured Government’s democracy and the rule of law. He therefore encouraged foreign investors to invest in the country as the nation is poised to grow faster than it is now.

On his part, the Honorable Minister of Finance, Kwadwo Baah Wiredu welcomed the new High Commissioner and briefed him on some of the developmental projects currently underway in the country. On this note, the Minister commendered the media for their role in the development of the country’s democracy. This, he said makes Ghana’s young democracy function not only in politics but every area of the Ghanaian life.

On the benefits which Ghana is deriving from Britain, the Minister expressed his profound appreciation to Britain and urged them to continue supporting the country. He appealed to the British Government to support Ghana in its road network system
